Open Question: Can we use Wired Broadband Internet connection with a LAPTOP ? Also, can we use it on a laptop with UBUNTU?

I live in KOTA, Rajasthan. I wish to subscribe for a RELIANCE BROADBAND -- Wired -- connection. My PC is a LAPTOP. It is TOSHIBA C640 X4012 with 2ND GENERATION INTEL I5 processor, 4GB RAM, 500GB and 5400 revolution-per-minute spindle-rate hard-disk. Wireless 3G USB DATA CARD service is very costly/uneconomical. Since, these days I have not been carrying around my laptop, I feel, a wired internet access would definitely suffice. Considering, the laptop configuration being decent, can I use a wired broadband with it? Actually, I am new to computers. I have heard Linux-based UBUNTU Operating Systems, for ex., UBUNTU 11.10, are decent for a free Graphical User Interface choice of computing. So, please advise.
